Spamming
Spamming is posting identical or nearly-identical messages - usually
ads, although not always - to a lot of newsgroups, one right after
the other. Any benefits spamming may possibly bring a company are
however more than counteracted by the intense outcry and disregard
the spammer and their products are held in. Spamming companies also
face being return-spammed themselves with junk mail, condemnatory
faxes and lawsuits. Spamming is hated not simply because it's advertising
but because of it is also incredibly rude, inconvenient and a waste
of valuable storage space.
Filters
UMIS Spam filtering allocates each incoming email a spam rating.
The email client then decides the level with which emails are permitted
entry thru the filter providing adaptable protection from unwanted,
ongoing spamming email.
The Origin of the term ‘Spam’
The use of ‘Spam’ in this context actually came from
Monty Python. The sketch had characters seated in a restaurant which
mainly sold Spam. Whenever the waitress recited the menu - items
on the menu included Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, eggs, ham, and Spam
- a group of Vikings in the corner would chime in with her chanting
the word ‘Spam’ over and over and over…
